GCC for Charity

With great power comes great responsibility!  ... Well that might have been quoted in Spiderman, isn't it is true fr any of us.

GCC is now a year old and has a strong support of 150+ club members. We, GCC admins, have taken this initiative to convert our every ride (be it a short weekday ride or a long weekend one, a race or a brm, an event or a ride to work) to support a cause. The cause can be any one, but not limiting to, the following:

*Supporting orphanage with food
*Supporting kids education
*Electricity to villages
*Supporting cancer patients
*Supporting conservation of green cover
*Old age homes
*Infant vaccinations

... and the list goes on.

So what can one do?
Well we are keeping it simple. Convert your GCC Miles to coins. Every km or a mile you ride with us, keep aside a rupee or two. For e.g , if we have rode 20kms today, you piggy bank Rs.20!

What next?
GCC suggests a cause at the start of the month. Keep on adding the money to your collection at the end of every ride. At the end of every month, GCC admins collect the money to buy some complimentary stuff to be utilized for the cause under consideration.

Accounts, audits and anonymity?
Yes, what ever amount you hand over at the end of every month will be recorded and will be kept anonymous! At any point of time, you would like to see some bills, it would be made avlb. The entire process would be transparent.

Is it compulsory to contribute if I ride with GCC?
Absolutely not! It is completely up-to the individual. You can ride with us as we always have been doing. Since this is for charity, there is absolutely no compulsion on anyone to contribute.

Can we all ride to the place where we would be donating stuff for charity?
Yes, that's the plan. Second Saturday of every month will be dedicated for it. We all will ride together to the decided place and hand over the items personally. May be stay over and spend some time with them, click pics and make them happy. Idea is to not just invest our money, but a bit of time too :)

When is the first charity ride planned?
As per the point above, it would be on November 12, 2016, second Saturday of the coming month.

What do I gain?
A respectful tag of a good Samaritan which you can always feel good about. Nothing, believe me and try it once, nothing gives you more happiness than selfless donation for a cause. You will know how proud and self respectful you feel about yourself!

How do I ascertain the genuineness of the cause?
We will provide you all possible links and contacts for you to verify. All donations will be in kind and no cash. We do not want our hard earned funds to be misused!

I cycle with other club. Can I still contribute?
Neki aur pooch pooch. GCC appreciates everyone who would like to stay on for the cause. You can be a regular rider for any Club arnd Mumbai, but you are always welcomed with open hands in GCC.

Who will collect the money and when?
As mentioned, money will be collected by one of the admins at the end of every month.

Can I join in for buying charity stuff to be donated?
Absolutely! We love to share responsibility and a helping hand is always needed.

Do I keep track of my money for every month before donating it?
Yes! It's a charitable cause and we want everyone contributing to be responsible for their donations. You keep track of GCC miles and the money associated with it.

Has someone from GCC already started this practice?
Yes! The admins have started saving up money for every ride we have done in past couple of weeks. Now we expect a bigger show here!

Will the final amount collected at the end of month be disclosed?
Yes, we will put the final amount up on this group. This will not only show how our small individual contributions have been instrumental in building a big chunk, but will also motivate more and more riders to contribute and ride for a cause.

Can you give me an example as to what amount one might expect at the end of month from entire GCC?
Well if we are riding say 10 riders and 50kms on average (shorter weekday and longer weekend rides), then we might end up collecting Rs 15000 every month. That's quite needful for many causes!

Can I get something from GCC to keep track of the donation  money I keep aside?
We are working towards a custom made GCC piggy bank 🐷 ☺ in shape of a cycle. Howsoever funny it might sound, it will definitely help!
